SugarBreak ("we", "our", "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights.
SugarBreak collects the following data to provide personalized coaching and sugar tracking:
Health and wellness information including symptoms you select during onboarding, daily check-in data (mood, craving intensity, sugar-free status), and notes you write about your day. Food scan data when you use the sugar scanner feature, including food names, search terms, and — only if you choose the photo scanner — photos of food items. App activity including your interactions with the coaching feature, your Motivation Vault answers (including any voice recordings you choose to add), and your progress data. Schedule information including wake time, sleep time, work hours, and meal times that you provide during setup. Basic device and usage information (see "Usage Analytics" below).
All data is used solely to provide app functionality and personalize your experience. Specifically, we use your data to generate personalized daily coaching briefings, provide AI-powered craving support through MyCoach, predict craving patterns and send timely alerts, track your progress and streaks, and identify food sugar content through the scanner.
SugarBreak uses Google's Gemini AI to generate coaching responses, daily briefings, craving nudges, and food scan results. When you use these features, the relevant information — such as your check-in history, craving logs, Motivation Vault answers, food search terms, and (only when you use the photo scanner) food photos — is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate your personalized response. Before any data is sent to Gemini for the first time, the app asks for your explicit consent, and you can decline. Google processes this data according to its Gemini API terms and privacy commitments, which provide protections equivalent to those described in this policy. We do not use your data to train AI models, and Google does not use data submitted through the paid Gemini API to train its models.
To understand how the app is used and improve it, we collect a small amount of anonymous usage information: a randomly generated anonymous identifier (not linked to your name, email, or Apple ID), your device model, operating system version, app version, approximate country (derived from your device's region setting — we do not collect precise location), and counts of how often core features are used (for example, how many scans or check-ins were completed). This anonymous data is sent to a private analytics record we maintain (via Google Apps Script / Google Sheets). It is never sold, never used for advertising, and is not combined with the health or coaching content described above.
Your personal health, coaching, and check-in data is stored locally on your device. We do not maintain a server or database that stores this personal content. Your data leaves your device only in these cases: (1) content sent to Google's Gemini AI for real-time coaching and scan responses, as described above; (2) food product lookups sent to the Open Food Facts API (no personal data is sent for these searches); and (3) the anonymous usage analytics described above.
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal data with third parties for advertising or marketing. We do not display ads. The only third parties that receive any data are: Google (Gemini API) for generating your AI responses, Open Food Facts for food product lookups (non-personal), and Google (Apps Script / Sheets) for anonymous usage analytics. Each processes data under its own terms, which provide protections equivalent to those in this policy.
Because your personal data is stored on your device, you can remove it at any time. On iPhone or iPad, deleting the SugarBreak app removes all locally stored data. On Android, you can go to Settings → Apps → SugarBreak → Storage → Clear Data. Since we do not store your personal health content on external servers, removing it from your device results in complete deletion of that content. Anonymous analytics records cannot be linked back to you and therefore cannot be individually identified for deletion; if you have questions, contact us at the email below.
SugarBreak is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us and we will address it.
SugarBreak offers optional in-app subscriptions processed through the Apple App Store (or Google Play on Android). Payment information is handled entirely by the platform's app store and is never accessed by us.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
